Wokingham Borough libraries will be running the following activities this August to promote the Summer Reading Challenge - The Big Friendly Read.

 

George's Marvellous Medicine

Free session with Explore Learning on Roald Dahl's George's Marvellous Medicine at Lower Earley Library on Monday 8 August from 9.30 to 10.30am. For children aged eight to ten, places must be booked.


Fantastic Mr Fox

Free session with Explore Learning on Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr Fox at Lower Earley Library on Monday 8 August from 10.45 to 11.45am. For children aged eight to nine, places must be booked.


Sand Art

Just drop-in and create a sand art picture. For children aged four to 11 at Lower Earley Library on Monday August 15 from 10.30am to 12.30pm, £3 per picture.

 

Mini Animal Models

Come and create some plasticine animals in this fun modelling session, for children aged eight and over, at Wargrave Library on Monday August 15 from 2.30 to 3.30pm. £2 charge, places must be booked.


Dahl Get Arty

Come and make some fun arts and crafts inspired by Roald Dahl's characters. Create a Mr Fox mask or a Mr Twit beard and other fun activities. Drop in to Twyford Library on Monday 15 August from 2.30 to 3.30pm and at Spencers Wood Library on Thursday 18 August from 10.30 to 11.30am. For children aged 12 and under, £1.50 charge.


Revolting Rhymes

Free session with Explore Learning on Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes at Woodley Library on Tuesday 16 August from 9.15 to 10.15am. For children aged five to seven, places must be booked.


Matilda

Free session with Explore Learning on Roald Dahl's Matilda at Woodley Library on Tuesday 16 August from 10.45 to 11.45am. For children aged seven to ten, places must be booked.


Fur and Feathers

Come and meet some birds of prey at Spencers Wood Library on Tuesday 16 August from 11am to noon and at Maiden Erlegh Library from 3.15 to 4.15pm. For families with children aged five and over. £3.50 charge, places must be booked.


Children's Writing Course

Fun writing course, for children aged nine to 12, at Maiden Erlegh Library on Tuesday 16 August from 3.15 to 4pm. Places must be booked.

 

Meet the Creatures

Meet the creatures with the Rangers from Dinton Pastures at Woodley Library on Thursday 18 August from 9.15 to 10am and at Lower Earley Library from 10.45 to 11.30am. For children under 12, £1 charge, just drop-in.


The Enormous Crocodile

Come and hear the story of The Enormous Crocodile and make some fun crocs to take home at Maiden Erlegh Library on Thursday 18 August from 2.15 to 3pm. For children aged eight and under, £1.50 charge, just drop-in.


Manga Workshop

Manga Drawing Workshop, for children aged eight to 16-years-old, at Lower Earley Library on Friday 19 August from 10 to 11.30am. £3 charge, places must be booked.


Circus Workshop

Come along and learn some circus skills at Finchampstead Library on Tuesday 9 August from 10.30 to 11.30am and at Winnersh Library from 1 to 2pm. For children aged four to 12. £3 charge, places must be booked.


Children's Writing Course

Fun writing course, for children aged nine to 12, at Maiden Erlegh Library on Tuesday 9 August from 3.15 to 4pm. Places must be booked.

Mad cap words and poetry fun with Rachel Piercy

Roald Dahl inspired poetry workshop with poet Rachel Piercy at Lower Earley Library on Thursday 25 August from 9.30 to 10.30am and at Wokingham Library on Thursday 25 August from 11am to noon. For children aged seven to 11. £2 charge, place must be booked.

 

Read with Kali the Dog

Pets as Therapy dog Kali will be in at Wokingham Library on Friday 26 August from 11am to noon ready to be told stories from children aged six to 10, just drop-in.

The Big Friendly Giant

Free session with Explore Learning on Roald Dahl's The Big Friendly Giant, for children aged seven to nine at Lower Earley Library on Tuesday 30 August from 10.45 to 11.45am.


The Twits storytelling presentation

Mr and Mrs Twit are ready to welcome you to the magical world of Roald Dahl as storyteller John Kirk retells The Twits. This presentation is suitable for children and families aged six and above (this story contains Twits being vile to each other), with a fun craft activity after the performance. It is presented with the permission of Casarotto Ramsay and the Roald Dahl estate. £3 charge, places must be booked.

Revolting Recipes Session

Come and take part in the fun, revolting recipe workshop at Winnersh Library on Wednesday 31 August from 11am to noon and 2 to 3pm and create some ‘Frobscottle’ drink and ‘The Big Friendly Gobbler’. For children aged seven to 11, places must be booked. £5 charge.
