The service is also running a series of courses to support wellbeing, delivered on its behalf by Activate Learning - Bracknell & Wokingham College. These include Singing4Wellbeing, Six Steps to Better Mental Health and Mindfulness Seasonal Nature Walk.
Cllr Graham Howe, executive member for children’s services, says: “We have loads of great courses available through our adult education service, that are free or subsidised for many of our residents.
These courses are designed to help adults gain vital skills and confidence. This may help them in their day-to-day life, with raising a family and/or to return to the workforce or start their first job, raising prospects and aspirations and working towards our wider council commitment of enriching lives and tackling poverty.
“We had over 600 learners last year, and we look forward to welcoming more this year.”
Courses vary in length and delivery is mixed between in person and online. Courses are free to those claiming income support or job seeking benefits and concessionary rates are available to those claiming Working Tax Credits or people referred by a Wokingham support service. For other learners, the courses may have a fee.
For courses starting after 1st August 2021, you need to live within the Wokingham Borough, be over 19 years old (as of 31st August 2021) and been a citizen of a country within the EEA and have ordinarily been resident in the EEA for at least 3 years. Also, if you are an EEA National, you need to have obtained either pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
