Wokingham Borough Libraries are marking National Bookstart Week (June 4 to 10) with Bookstart Bird Boogie themes stories and rhyme sessions for children and their parents.

National Bookstart Week is an annual celebration of BookTrust’s flagship reading programme, Bookstart. Bookstart gives every child in England and Wales a free reading pack in the first year of their life and again when they are 3-4 years old. BookTrust works to remind families of the importance of reading for pleasure – even if it’s just for ten minutes a day.

The theme of this year’s National Bookstart Week is ‘Bookstart Bird Boogie’. Children who attend any of the events will receive a free copy of the picture book A Busy Day for Birds by Lucy Cousins.

Bookstart Bird Boogie Storytimes are aimed at parents with children aged 7 and under and are being held at the following libraries:

  • Woodley Library: Saturday June 9 from 11am to 130am
  • Arborfield Library: Monday June 11 from 45pm to 4.15pm
  • Lower Earley Library: Monday June 11 from 115am to 11.45am
  • Twyford Library: Tuesday June 19 from 45pm to 4.15pm
