Final preparations are taking place at Wokingham’s first boxing fitness hub, BXGFit, as it gets ready to open this winter.
The council has invested in the state-of-the-art boxing fitness hub at Peach Place, Wokingham, following an increased demand in combat sports and fitness sessions across the borough. BXGFit will generate income for the borough council through memberships, personal training packages, pay as you go classes, facility hire and merchandise sales, which is available for reinvestment in critical council services at no cost to the tax payer.
The hub includes a training ring, storage rig with three fitness stations, a functional cube rig with attachments for four to six fitness stations and punchbags including aquabags, heavy bags and uppercut bags.
Mayor visits BXGFit
Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Keith Baker MBE along with executive member for environment and leisure Cllr Parry Batth attended a tour of the boxing hub on Friday 5 November 2021 to view its progress.
Cllr Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure said: “Once opened, BXGFit will offer a range of fantastic boxing facilities available to everyone, whether you are looking for one-to-one training, membership, adhoc classes or facility hire. This brand new leisure facility packs a punch and will support our community to help complement an active lifestyle.
“As we prepare for the launch, we are running a series of free taster sessions and tours where residents can explore the gym, see and try out the equipment, ask questions and sign up to an early bird discount on membership and classes.”
Download the free app
A brand new BXGFit app has been developed where residents can book free tours and taster sessions, classes and memberships, one-to-one training, manage their bookings, hire the boxing hub facility, buy merchandise and much more. The app can be downloaded for free by searching ‘BXGFit’ in Android’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store.
Book a free tour
Wokingham Borough Council’s sport and leisure team is offering residents free thirty-minute tours of the new boxing gym every Monday and Wednesday from now until 24 November 2021. The tours can be booked on the BXGFit app or via the Eventbrite website.
The fitness hub is envisaged to create a rustic and premium destination to Peach Place, creating a new opportunity for residents to join something new and helping people to get active by offering a different experience to other fitness hubs in the surrounding areas.
BXGFit will bring social and health benefits, promoting positive physical and mental health for all ages including children from 8 years old and adults, whilst offering job opportunities to the local community.
Available for hire
During off-peak hours, BXGFit’s space will be available to local boxing clubs for hire, self-defence partners, as well as supporting young individuals in the borough.
Supports the Leisure Strategy
The development of BXGFit will support the council’s draft Leisure Strategy to enhance its leisure provision within the borough, supporting healthy weight management and helping borough residents to increase the amount of exercise in line with public health guidelines (completing 150 minutes exercise at moderate intensity, or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity per week).
