Information about International Street Concert and associated road closure
26 October 2018
Road closed sign

Wokingham Borough and Town Councils are committed to both supporting and delivering the cultural events and activities that bring communities together and provide the vibrancy that is vitally important to our social and economic well-being

The International Street Concert is a free event organised by WTC and has rapidly established itself as an integral part of Wokingham town’s cultural calendar – looked forward to by many it is a great evening for everyone to enjoy. For more information on the street concert visit www.lovewokingham.co.uk

The concert (and associated ArtFest that will take place in Broad Street during the day on Saturday June 2) require a closure of Broad Street from 6am on Saturday June 2 to 6am on Sunday June 3. However, the starting time for this year’s closure will be brought forward, to 8pm on Friday June 1 to take advantage of the opportunity it provides for Balfour Beatty to carry out some work on Broad Street overnight (Friday to Saturday)

When will Broad Street be closed?

The road will be closed from 8pm of Friday June 1 to 6am on Sunday June 3. This will allow time for Balfour Beatty to carry out the necessary work and the Street concert to take place and staging to be dismantled.

What will the diversion route be?

The diversion route will follow the Winter Carnival route along Easthamsptead Road. Full details are at www.roadworks.org

The diversion route will be signed and there will be advanced warning signs on the London Road. Drivers with local knowledge will also be able to find other routes around the town centre

Why have you allowed the road closure while Denmark Street is closed and Langborough Road has a one-way section?

We realise the closure causes an extra level of inconvenience to an already disrupted road network but the town’s cultural events are vital to its identity and bring enormous benefits to residents and businesses. We believe the small additional inconvenience is a price worth paying for the benefits this free concert brings the community.

The concert would go ahead without the extra Friday night closure – why is that being allowed?

There have to be some night closures as part of the Market Street project and it just seemed sensible to add one on to Street Concert closure. Night closures obviously bring much less disruption to traffic and we will be sure to enforce noise restriction to protect nearby residents

Will the night time roadworks affect the Street Concert?

No. Balfour Beatty will be cleared and off-site before the concert organisers start their set up. The area outside Boots will be completely clear during Saturday June 2 to allow space for the ArtsFest planned for the day.

Will buses be running as normal?

Bus services will operate but some routes will have to change. These will be

Leopard 3

Leopard 3 will terminate at and start from Wokingham Station during this period. The service will depart Wokingham Station at the Broad Street time.

Lion 4 and X4

Towards Bracknell: Normal route to Shute End then left Rectory Road (observing bus stop), right Wiltshire Road and left London Road and normal route.

Towards Reading: After serving the Three Frogs bus stop the service will turn right into Binfield Road, then left at mini-roundabout into Keephatch Road, straight across next roundabout then at next mini-roundabout and turn right into Warren House Road. The service will then go over the motorway and at roundabout take the B3034 Forest Road. It will then turn left on to A321 towards Wokingham, go left into Milton Road and then right Jubilee Avenue, left on to Holt Lane and right A329 Reading Road back on to normal route.

The Courtney Bus services that normally run along Broad Street will also be affected.
