Mayor of Wokingham Borough, Cllr John Kaiser, was joined by partners to officially open the new Sutton Court affordable housing development on Friday 11 January.
The new development, just off Culver Lane in Earley, was completed back in December 2018 by Southern Housing Group and consists of 20 new dwellings, with four homes designated social rent and 16 shared ownership. It contains a mix of detached and semi-detached two, three and four bed properties. The event was marked with a tree planting onsite, and speeches from the Mayor, Southern Housing Group’s group development director Oliver Boundy and chair of the board, Arthur Merchant.
Mayor of Wokingham Borough, Cllr John Kaiser said: “I was delighted to open this new development, which brings 20 new affordable homes to the Wokingham Borough. This is more than just bricks and mortar; this site will provide homes and futures to those 20 families. Ensuring there are enough affordable homes in the Borough for those who need them most is key, and we are continuing to work hard to achieve this.”
Oliver Boundy, group development director at Southern Housing Group, said: “After several years of hard work and investment into the Sutton Court development, I am proud that we have been able to provide these quality detached and semi-detached homes that are well suited to the needs of the local community. As a housing association, we exist to provide truly affordable homes for people in housing need and Sutton Court is part of our commitment to improving the lives of our residents and their communities.”
These new homes replace a previous development of two blocks of one bedroom and bedsit properties, which were demolished back in December 2014. The construction project was led by Airey Miller Construction management.
