New primary school on track to open in Shinfield this September

24 May 2018
New Silver Meadow Primary School

The primary school being built as part of the Shinfield West development is progressing well and on track to be ready for its first pupils this September.

The Floreat Silver Meadow Primary School will cater for children moving into the Shinfield West housing development and surrounding area and will be run by education provider Floreat Academy Trust, which already runs Montague Park Primary School in Wokingham.

The school building is well underway and it will be open for parents interested in sending their children to the school in September. Parents can apply for school places this month in the normal way.

Wokingham Borough Mayor, Cllr Rob Stanton, visited the new school site to see progress for himself. Also present were directors and representatives from F3G, Bloor Homes Ltd, Bovis Homes Ltd, and Linden Homes which are providing the new school as well as Beard Construction which is building it.

Cllr Stanton said: “It was wonderful to see the building progressing and I'm excited about another great school opening in the Wokingham Borough. As the borough’s population grows with the necessary new housing, it's vital we provide the right schools, community buildings and other facilities. Floreat Silver Meadow is a good example of how we are succeeding in this.”

Lord O’Shaughnessy, founder, Floreat Education Academies Trust, said:  “This is an exciting moment in the creation of the new Silver Meadow school. Floreat's 'character plus academics' approach to education is already proving popular with parents in Wokingham through our primary school in Montague Park, and we're looking forward to serving children and parents in this vibrant new community."

Silver Meadow Primary School is part of ‘Shinfield Meadow’, a new community for the Wokingham Borough that is being created by of Linden Homes, Bloor Homes and Bovis Homes to provide 1,200 new homes, a food store, commercial and communal space, and recreation grounds.

Shinfield Meadow is part of the borough council’s long-term plans to accommodate the local housing needed, in major developments that include the necessary schools, roads and other facilities. In total these will bring seven new primary schools (one is already open in Montague Park) as well as the Bohunt Wokingham Secondary School at Arborfield Green.
