Since 1 April 2013, local authorities in England have been responsible for running their own schemes to help people pay their council tax.
The Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme helps working age people on low incomes pay their council tax, by reducing the amount they have to pay. The amount of council tax reduction is based on the individual personal circumstances of the claimant and anyone else living in their household.
Currently, in the Wokingham Borough up to 100% of council tax can be covered by council tax reduction.
Have your say
The borough council has to balance how much it spends on the scheme against how much it spends on other services. The council has therefore decided to review its Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
Local people are being asked for their views on the council’s proposals for its new Council Tax Reduction Scheme which will operate from April 2016 onwards.
