Thanks to everyone who braved the elements on 6 and 7 November to find out more about Market Place improvements proposals.
Officers from Wokingham Borough Council and Wokingham Town Council were on hand to talk through emerging ideas which are based on comments received to date, whilst taking on board the constraints of the site.
Overall the conversations were really positive. Many of you confirmed you were happy with the plans to improve Market Place and that it’s maintained as the town’s central focus. There is a keenness to include natural paving stones and we look at addressing the current surfaces.
You also told us you would like a quality space around the Town Hall which is also flexible and can be used for not only the market but events as well.
There is still time to get involved. We are also holding a workshop a workshop on November 16 between 7pm and 9pm where people will have the opportunity to get involved with looking at things such as materials, street furniture, and signage – for both Market Place and the new public square when Peach Place is redeveloped in 2017.
While the two projects are separate, they would complement each other. It is envisaged common themes would flow through the town.
This builds on from the work following previous consultations on the Public Realm in 2013, and Peach Place in 2014.
There are limited spaces available for the workshop and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. To request a space on the workshop please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
