Wokingham Borough Council’s countryside service and libraries team have an egg-cellent array of online and physical activities to keep you and your family entertained across the Easter break.
Spring into action this school holiday with a series of sessions at the Dinton Activity Centre. Kids are invited to make a splash with our Covid-19 secure water and land activities, from our Junior Sailing Club right through to our Wild Days and Welly Days.
Boat Hire re-opens on Friday 2 April, with prices starting at from just £8. You can take your pick from pedalo to paddleboard, or even kayak and canoe - with 94 acres of lake there's plenty of space to enjoy the sunshine at a safe distance from others!
On Sunday 18 April, see the lake come to life on our Springwatch Paddle. Look out for our waterfowl chicks like ducklings, cygnets and goslings and our beautiful colourful dragonflies. Finish the paddle with a nice warm drink and slice of homemade cake outside the Activity Centre.
Before you hop on down to Dinton’s destination play area, please ensure you book in advance. Tickets are free but limited to a maximum of six people per booking and 150 people per time slot.
Little ones are in for a treat thanks to a jam-packed programme of online Easter activities bought to you by our libraries team. Join us for silly stories and fun tales at our Virtual Storytime event. Taking place on Tuesday 6 April at 11am, this activity is suitable for families with children aged 7 and under.
The excitement continues on Thursday 8 April, with the Fun with Phonics Workshop! Hosted by Explore Learning this virtual event is suitable for 4- to 6-year-olds and takes place 11am to 12noon. During the workshop kids will try to recognise and say a pair of words that rhyme, helping them to segment a word and learn to spell it with ease.
Next up is the ever-popular Teen Writing session with an author visit from Simon James Green. This takes place on Saturday 10 April, from 10.30am to 12noon.
On Thursday 15 April, 7- to 9-year-olds are invited to our Become a Maths Wizard Workshop, hosted by Explore Learning. Taking place between 11am to 12noon, the workshop will demonstrate counting in 3s, 4s, 6s and 8s.
Children aged 7 to 10 years old are invited to join artist Chris Holley in a poetry inspired art session where they can then create their own bird. This event takes place on Friday 16 April at 11am.
To sign up just email firstname.lastname@example.org with the session you would like to attend, with your name and library card number. You will be sent details of how to join the day before. You can see all the library events here.
