The dedicated Covid-19 vaccine clinic in Wokingham Borough will be moving to Shute End from Thursday 6 October.
The clinic will be relocated to Shuters Café in the basement of Wokingham Borough Council’s Shute End offices, where it will offer the adult autumn booster vaccine on Thursdays and Fridays and the children’s vaccine to people aged five to 11 on Sundays.
These clinics were previously held on the ground floor of the former Wokingham Library in Denmark Street.
At present, the autumn booster jab is offered to people aged 65 and over, as well as frontline health and social care workers, who have completed their primary course of at least the first two doses. Other groups that have been recommended the autumn booster by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, including all people aged 50 years and older, and those aged five years and over in a clinical risk group, should come forward later as the programme continues to roll out.
Residents who are eligible for the vaccines offered at the clinic are advised to book ahead on the NHS National Booking Website or by calling 119.
On Thursdays and Fridays from 4pm to 5pm, the clinic will provide the autumn booster vaccine exclusively to frontline health and social care staff on a walk-in basis. The definition of these roles is set out on the Government website.
Those attending the clinic are reminded to bring their NHS number and a face covering with them. Health and social care staff should also bring proof of status, such as workplace photo ID, a letter from your employer from the past three months, or a payslip from the past three months which shows your employer.
Cllr David Hare, executive member for health, wellbeing and adult services, said: “It is important for everyone, especially those who are more vulnerable, to get up to date with vaccinations without delay ahead of the winter months when respiratory infections, such as Covid-19, are expected to circulate at higher levels.
“Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect you and your loved ones so that we can live more safely with the virus. Wokingham Borough Council is continuing to encourage and facilitate our residents in getting vaccinated. We are also supporting the NHS in every way we can to deliver the vaccination programme as well as possible to all residents.”
There will be a regular review of the site to understand needs and the council would encourage everyone to make good use of the facility.
