The NHS ‘Health on the Move’ Covid-19 vaccine bus will return to the Asda Lower Earley car park next week, following a successful stint in the same location last month.
The vaccine bus will be on site from 1pm to 6pm on Monday 9, Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 August, offering first and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine on a first come-first served basis. There’s no need to book in advance – simply turn up on the day to get the vaccine.
Those hoping for a second dose of the Pfizer vaccine must have an eight-week gap since their first and bring their vaccine card with them. People are encouraged to bring proof of age. Anyone not able to get a jab at these sites can still book their first or second dose of the vaccine through the NHS website.
Come forward for the vaccine
Cllr Charles Margetts, executive member for health, wellbeing and adult social care, said: “We’re delighted to have the vaccine bus back next week. Our previous pop-up in this location saw over 300 people come forward for their first or second dose, and we’re hoping for a similar turnout this time round.
“If you or someone you know is yet to have the vaccine, please come forward for it. Infection rates remain high in the borough, particularly amongst younger groups of people who won’t be fully vaccinated yet – but both doses of the vaccine can protect you from becoming seriously unwell.”
Further clinics being arranged
The council is in the process of arranging further pop-up clinics, including one in Bulmershe which will act as an eight-week follow-up to the surge vaccination programme that took place in June. More information will be shared in due course.
“We’re working closely with the NHS to make getting the vaccine as easy as possible,” said Cllr Margetts. “Thank you to everyone who has come forward so far – let’s all continue to play our part and do our bit for the borough.”
Keep up with testing
Residents are encouraged to keep up with their twice-weekly lateral flow tests to check they aren’t infected and spreading the virus unknowingly; regardless of where they’ve been vaccinated or not. Everyone should also continue to get a PCR test if they develop any symptoms.
