Wokingham Borough Council has appointed Carol Cammiss as director of children’s services.

This appointment follows her latest role at Wokingham Borough as assistant director for quality assurance, safeguarding standards and policy and performance.

Carol brings a wealth of experience including roles at Surrey County Council and the London Borough of Merton. At the latter, she was responsible for the design and implementation of strategic plans, improving leadership and managing Ofsted inspections.

Carol’s professional background as a social worker has provided her with a robust understanding of children’s services. Her vast portfolio of direct work with children and young people is a testament to her ability to fulfil this role.

Partnership working and stakeholder engagement are the key priority for Carol in the successful delivery of high quality, safe and effective services.

Speaking on her appointment, Carol said: “I’m delighted and look forward to embracing new opportunities as director of children’s services in Wokingham Borough. This is an exciting time in Wokingham Borough and I am very much looking forward to working with young people, our staff, volunteers and partners in taking forward our ambition to provide excellent, and innovative services.”

Council leader, Cllr Charlotte Haitham Taylor said: The director of children's services provides valuable leadership in delivering our priorities which ensure partners work together to safeguard our children and deliver high quality education for all.  I am pleased that Carol Cammiss has demonstrated the shared vision and skills needed to bring about positive change for children and young people in our Borough. I wish her every success in her new role.”

Carol takes up her post on November 1.
