Residents and businesses are being urged to have their say about plans for the second phase of the South Wokingham Distributor Road (SWDR).
Wokingham Borough Council has submitted an application for this new part of the SWDR, known as the Eastern Gateway, following a public exhibition in the summer.
The statutory consultation period for feedback and formal comments about the Eastern Gateway section runs until Wednesday 22 November.
The proposed route runs south from the new Montague Park housing development at William Heelas Way to Waterloo Road via a new bridge over the Waterloo/Reading railway line.
Once the new bridge is open, the current Waterloo Road level crossing would close and all traffic including cyclists and pedestrians would use that and the new road.
“This is a milestone application for development of much needed housing and infrastructure improvements," said Cllr David Lee, deputy leader and executive member for strategic highways and planning.
“Residents and businesses have been heavily involved from the start with their valued feedback helping to shape the plans. We want this to continue and would encourage people to get involved again to see the exact details and have their say about the plans.
“The SWDR is being designed primarily to ease existing traffic problems for residents living in nearby roads as well as carry vehicles from the new homes being built.”
The first phase of the SWDR was William Heelas Way through Montague Park, which is already open, and was built by developer David Wilson Homes.
The later stages of the SWDR would pick up from Waterloo Road and continue to new junctions at Easthampstead Road and Finchampstead Road, connecting to the existing Tesco roundabout.
The SWDR is being designed to serve the new 2,500 homes in the South Wokingham Strategic Development Location.
Some 130 people attended the Eastern Gateway exhibition at Montague Park Primary School in June and July this year.
