Local music lovers can look forward to another summer of great entertainment as a series of free Saturday music events returns to Peach Place in Wokingham town centre.

Organised with Beyond the Download record store on Rose Street, the events proved a big success when they were first run last summer, with residents heading down to Peach Place to listen to some fantastic free music and dance along. They could also enjoy some of the fantastic food and drink on offer in the surrounding independent businesses like Sit and Sip, Leafy Elephant, Hamlet bistro and Bombay Story Indian Kitchen and Bar.

This summer’s series looks set to be just as popular with a great range of bands lined up including The Skangsters, The New Highs and Funkin Souled along with some up and coming local support acts. And there’s even a special Festival for Ukraine event being held on Saturday 25 June, in partnership with  Generation Studio, to raise money to support charity British-Ukrainian Aid.

Dates of events include:

  • 11 June – THE SKANGSTERS (7.30pm to 10pm)
  • 25 June – FESTIVAL FOR UKRAINE (2pm to 10pm)
  • 9 July – FUNKIN SOULED OUT plus support (4pm to 8pm)
  • 6 August – SIREN plus support (6pm to 10pm)
  • 10 September – THE NEW HIGHS plus support (4pm to 8pm)

“Wokingham is a town which prides itself on fantastic independent businesses and it’s strong community events” said Cllr Clive Jones, leader of the council and executive member for business and economic development. “It’s great to be able to support them by hosting these events at the heart of Peach Place and the town centre. I’d encourage people to come along, book a table at one of the fantastic businesses around the square or bring along a camping chair, and see for themselves just how great the town and Peach Place can be.”

Ian Biles, Beyond the Download record store, said: “Last year’s events were a great success with businesses benefiting from the increased business and more people discovering Peach Place. People were calling the shop to ask if there was music on the weekend and if yes, were booking tables in Peach Place establishments. We’ve booked some great bands again this year. The format being main bands supported by local musicians.”
