Runners from across the Borough are gearing up for the biggest running event of the year.
Wokingham Half Marathon is Berkshire’s first traditional post-Christmas half marathon and takes place on 23 February.
Kicking off at 10am, the 13.1 mile race starts and finishes at Cantley Park. The course is fully closed to traffic and runs on flat rural roads. From massages, shower facilities and a race village with catering, the event is approved by the United Kingdom Athletics (UKA).
For the thrill of crossing the finish line, the highlight of race is the new Wokingham Mini Mile family run. The one mile route set to get the youngsters involved and active, is chip-timed and offers medals for all.
“Wokingham Half Marathon is a great annual event for the Borough residents to enjoy. I wish all participants every success in this fantastic weekend,” said Cllr Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure. “I would also like to take this opportunity, to thank all those who have contributed to the event; organisers, sponsors and volunteers. All your hard work is much appreciated.”
To keep the cheer going, Wokingham Borough Council’s sport and leisure team will be offering information about the latest leisure developments and other sporting events planned this winter.
Anyone over 17 is welcome to join the marathon, with places still available from as little as £26. To take part in either races, please visit https://wokinghamhalf.co.uk/ .
