Help us shape and enhance the future library service

Help shape and enhance the future library service is the message from Wokingham Borough Council this month (November) as it launches a customer feedback survey.

 

Library users as well as non-users are being encouraged to share their views on the library service. The feedback will inform the council how to develop and deliver its library offer in the future.

 

In Wokingham Borough, there are nine libraries, as well as a home delivery service and a community-managed micro-library in Shinfield.

 

Each library provides a wide range of services including book and audiobook lending; online books, newspapers and magazines; music streaming, children and adult activities and events. Also on offer is free public computers; free public Wi-Fi, which can be used on own devices; printing and scanning, and space for studying. Libraries act as a community hub where people can collect refuse bags, seek advice and information, apply for jobs, apply for benefits and other online applications and access and find out more about council services. They are also safe spaces for people.

 

The survey, which is open until Tuesday 6 December, can be found on Engage Wokingham Borough. It will inform the council how libraries can best meet the needs of residents and communities now, and in the future. The council is keen to explore what the priorities should be for the library service moving forward and if there are any specific areas residents would like to see changed or improved.

 

Customer feedback will be used to help develop the council’s wider community strategy which will include library services.

 

Cllr Sarah Kerr, executive member for climate emergency and resident services, said: “We want as many people to let us know their views on our library service. We need to understand what aspects of the service are most important to people, and also gain a better understanding of how they currently use them, and if they don’t, why not.  

 

“We’ve been running a hugely successful library service for many years now, and we want to build on this for the future. We are facing unprecedented financial challenges so it’s really important to understand what matters most to our residents in terms of the library service and how we can make best use of them. It’s vital people give us their feedback so the needs of library users and the wider community are met.”

 

If you need help completing the survey, please call the council’s customer services team on (0118) 974 6000. This service is available to all residents including those who do not have access to digital devices. Paper copies are also available at your local library.
