It is a hive of construction activity inside the new £14.5million Bulmershe Leisure Centre in Woodley this month (November).
Tiling is continuing on the six-lane 25-metre swimming pool as well as in the changing rooms, and the pool’s moveable accessible lift is due to be installed. Work is also due to start tiling around the pool.
The first floor of the centre is being decorated and its door frames and screens fitted. Toilets and lockers are being fixed, and ceilings put up in all areas and light fittings installed. The reception desk’s template is also going in. Mains electric is now on across the centre, and gas and water are being plumbed in. Work on external landscaping is also due to start.
The new centre will also have a teaching pool with movable floor, a bigger gym plus a ‘live well’ (long-term condition) gym, a four-court sports hall, and an additional studio and café. It will benefit the whole community by providing up-to-date, accessible and flexible facilities, as well as preventative health services.
It is being built by our contractor Pellikaan Construction Ltd and once the centre is finished – it is due to open in late spring - it will be run by our partners Places Leisure.
“Every time I visit, there is something new and exciting being installed. Watching this new centre come to life is a pleasure and I cannot wait for our local residents to see it, use it, and enjoy all that it will offer,” said Cllr Bill Soane, Wokingham Borough Mayor.
