Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Rob Stanton is holding a ‘magical’ ball next month (17 February) in aid of the scheme Cancer Champions being set up by one of his chosen charities Involve.
The event, at Hilton St Anne’s Manor from 7pm, promises to be a dazzling affair. On arrival, guests will be serenaded by Ruby and the Tri-Tones who will dazzle with swing songs from the 1940s and 50s. A four-course meal will follow with magician duo Kerry Scorah and Richard Parsons providing the entertainment as they work their way from table to table.
Cllr David Lee, deputy leader of Wokingham Borough Council will be guest auctioneer for a silent charity auction. The evening will be rounded-off on the dance floor with the band Flashback performing songs from the golden age of swing, and rock and rock.
“Being told you’ve cancer is one of the most frightening and confusing events to happen in your life. I know. It’s happened to me,” said Borough Mayor, Cllr Rob Stanton. “But I was very fortunate I had the love and support of my family and friends. But I know that many have to face this alone.
“Cancer Champions will provide information to those who have had a diagnosis, and their loved ones, to help them get all the support they need in this time of crisis and ensure no-one is alone at this time.
“This charity is very close to my heart, and this fantastic evening will raise some vital funds for this worthwhile cause. So many of us have been, or are affected by cancer, so I hope that you’ll join me on this night which promises to be a night to remember.”
The Mayor traditionally chooses a charity to benefit from fundraising during their year in office. All proceeds from the event will go to Cancer Champions.
Tickets cost £75 per person, or £700 for a table of ten, and are available online.
