To mark National Carers Week (Monday 12 June to Sunday 18 June), Wokingham Borough Council, Wokingham Outreach Service, Wokingham Crossroads, Involve and Wokingham Mencap have teamed up to organise a programme of events and activities for carers in the borough.

National Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Are you an unpaid carer in Wokingham? If so, there are some free events on offer:

  • Monday 12 June - An information and advice stand at Tesco
  • Tuesday 13 June - An information and advice stand at Wokingham Borough Council, Shute End
  • Thursday 15 June - Information, pampering and other activities at The Coppid Beech Hotel, Bracknell (lunch will be provided)
  • Friday 16 June - A day by the river in Windsor including a boat trip and picnic (limited spaces)

A respite break service is available to enable carers to attend these events. Places are limited on first come first serve basis. Contact Wokingham Crossroads on crossroads@wokingahm10.orangehome.co.uk or call (0118) 979 5324 to arrange respite.

For a space on the Windsor boat trip call the Wokingham Outreach Service on (0118) 324 7333 or email: ask@berksghirecarershub.org

Are you a young carer?

As well as the activities listed above, there will also be water activities for young carers at Dinton Activity Centre on Saturday 17 June from 9.30am to 3.45pm.

Young carers will need to bring a swimming costume, light weight shoes for going in the water, a towel and a change of clothes. A picnic lunch will be provided.

To book a place or for more information call The Carers Hub on (0118) 324 7333 or email: ask@berkshirecarershub.org
