New payment machines are coming to all Wokingham Borough Council car parks in June/July 2019.
The new machines will give customers more flexibility: to pay by coin or by card, to pay only for the time used, to avoid the worry of a parking ticket expiring and to not pay a convenience fee to use a credit or debit card.
Cockpit Path car park in Wokingham town centre is the first council car park to get the new machines, with two arriving this week.
The new digital screen machines allow customers to pay for the number of hours as normal or to pre-authorise a payment with the ‘check in – check out’ system to provide customers the option to only pay for the time stayed. The digital displays have step by step instructions.
The flexible machines will be rolled out across all council car parks in June / July 2019.
Customers can pay for their parking via the Ringo app until September 2020, at which point an alternative phone payment system will be introduced via the new machines.
Director of locality and customer services Sarah Hollamby said, “The new car park payment machines will give our residents a great new option when using our car parks – to check in with a debit or credit card and then check out whenever they want to leave and only pay for the exact amount of time they are actually using the car park.
“The new machines allow you to run your errands and then if you bump into a friend and want to go for a coffee you won’t have to worry about getting a parking ticket.”
