Wokingham Borough Council organises Independent Education Appeal Panels to hear appeals against the Admission Authority’s decisions in relation to school admissions, and currently needs more volunteers to serve on these Appeal Panels.
Panels are made up of lay representatives, governor representatives, and teacher representatives. Their task is to hear the Admission Authority’s reasons for not allocating a place to a child, and the parents’ reasons for wanting their child to go to the preferred school. They then have to decide whether to allow the appeal, considering the effect of admitting extra children to the school and the impact on the provision of efficient education and efficient use of resources.
The likely commitment will be several days per year during office hours. Training will be provided and out-of-pocket expenses for travel and car parking will be met.
If you would like to become involved in this interesting and rewarding work, and wish to have an informal discussion or request an application form, please contact Luciane Bowker on 07783828181 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
