Wokingham town centre continues to prove it’s a great place for bars, restaurants and women’s fashion as local businesses The Leafy Elephant and Hamlet at Peach Place, and the Fiona Parry Boutique at Elms Field all received top prizes at the recent Muddy Stiletto 2022 Awards for Berkshire.
The Muddy Stiletto awards recognise the best of local independents across the country with business nominated and voted for by the residents who use them. And this year was one of their biggest yet with over 75,000 businesses nominated and 765,000 votes cast nationwide.
The Leafy Elephant received the prize for the best Bar in Berkshire. One of the first businesses to open in Peach Place back in 2019, the bar is known for its fantastic range of specialist gin and cocktails, along with great staff and regular events such as specialist gin and rum tastings.
Winner of the best Restaurant category Hamlet, which opened last year, offers top quality bistro dining with an emphasis on the very best local and speciality producers to create delicious food which is proving a real hit. And their special Chef’s table experience lets local food lovers get a glimpse behind the scenes with a special bespoke menu and an opportunity to meet the chefs.
The last of the town centres winners is also one of its most recent openings, with the Fiona Parry Boutique winning the best Women’s Fashion award. Opening earlier this year the boutique offers a range of fabulous clothing and accessories, with a focus on classic, stylish and feminine fashion with a curated collection that can be worn in different ways.
Cllr Clive Jones, leader of the council and executive member for business and economic development, said: “It’s great to see some of the town’s new businesses being recognised like this. The Muddy Stiletto awards are voted for by locals, so you know you are getting real reviews from people who know, and love the businesses involved.
“These are just three of the fantastic independent stores on offer in Wokingham, and there’s so many more to see here in the town centre, or in our other centres like Twyford and Woodley. There are huge benefits to shopping local, whether it’s reducing your carbon footprint by travelling less, supporting local jobs or seeing more money being ploughed back into the local economy, it’s something we’d encourage people to do."
