Planning permission has been granted by Wokingham Borough Council for residential development on land at Polehampton in Ruscombe.
The build will consist of two, two-bedroom houses and will form part of the strategic programme of development across the Borough by Wokingham Housing Limited (WHL).
As the Council’s housing development company, WHL is committed to building social and affordable housing which will then be made available to individuals on the housing register.
The houses will utilise a piece of land currently being used for informal parking and will comprise one house available lower than market rent and one for shared ownership, where people can part buy and part rent the new house.
The development is to be funded from legal contributions from private developers who are building private home in the Borough.
Bill Flood, managing director of Wokingham Housing Limited, said: "I am delighted that planning approval has been granted for this well designed and thought through scheme; it will deliver much-needed new affordable housing for people in Ruscombe.
"We aim to start work on site in the Spring of 2017, and hope to have completed the new homes for residents to move in to in time for Christmas 2017."
Established in 2011, WHL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wokingham Borough Council, working to create good quality affordable and private market housing. Through building new homes and regenerating existing sub-standard housing across the Borough, WHL will play an important part in meeting the increasing demand for homes locally, while also enhancing the communities that we build in.
