Set back will not stop Ryeish Green Sports Centre reopening

Set back will not stop Ryeish Green Sports Centre reopening

Wokingham Borough Council remains fully committed to re-opening Ryeish Green Sports Centre after its first choice partner to run the facility unfortunately pulled out.

The sports centre was closed alongside the former Ryeish Green School in 2010 but the borough council is committed to reopening it for the local community.

The Berkshire Junior Badminton Association (BJBA) had been selected as the council’s preferred partner to run the centre following a selection procedure that considered expressions of interest from a range of potential providers.

Sadly the BJBA has decided it cannot take on this project as funding from its national body is not sufficient to take on the project.

Despite this setback, the council’s remains committed to the principle of re-opening the sports centre for the benefit of the local community.

A consultation held last year showed that respondents were keen to see the centre used by the community and also made available to Oakbank School pupils and these remain the aspirations of the council.

In the light of this recent development the council is going to take a few weeks to consider its options for taking the project forward.
