Members of Aylesbury SOBS (Survivors of Bereaved by Suicide) stopped at Wokingham Borough Council’s Shute End offices, for much-needed tea and cake, to help sustain them on their charity walk to Brighton.
They were welcomed by the Deputy Borough Mayor, Cllr John Kaiser, colleagues from the council’s public health team, and representatives from Wokingham SOBS. The latter were due to join the SOBS walkers on the next stretch of the journey.
SOBS has support groups across the country, and Wokingham's has existed for four years. The walk from Aylesbury to Brighton was to raise awareness of the charity nationally.
Reducing suicide and supporting those bereaved by it are important roles for Wokingham Borough Council’s public health team. The council has led on suicide prevention as part of the national strategy, which included the launch of the Berkshire wide Suicide Prevention Strategy at the Town Hall last year.
