Residents on low incomes could get up to £25,000 of home improvements free of charge.
Anyone who owns and lives in a property with a low energy efficiency rating could make use of measures like loft insulation, cavity wall insulation and solar panels.
The Sustainable Warmth Scheme provides Government grants to fund improvements for people struggling with energy costs, especially with rising bills and the cost of living crisis.
Wokingham Borough Council is administering the fund alongside its partner City Energy.
Application criteria
Households heated by alternative fuels such as oil heating or electric only heaters, and with an annual income of less than £30,000, could be eligible for up to £25,000 at no cost to them.
Households with the lowest Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of G, F or E and an annual income of less than £30,000 could be eligible for up to £10,000, also at no cost.
Improvements not only cut bills and costs but are good for the planet.
Reducing the amount of energy needed directly reduces emissions.
Options for improvements
Across the country hundreds of people are already benefitting from this funding. Improvements include:
- Low carbon heating systems with air source heat pumps
- Energy efficient hot water
- Solar panels
- Energy efficient lighting
Cllr Stephen Conway, deputy leader of the council and executive member for housing, said: “For vulnerable residents, thinking ahead to next winter is really important.
“This funding will help those struggling with energy bills to make vital improvements to their homes so they can look forward to cheaper costs and a warmer home with price increases scheduled from the middle of next year.
“We’re working with trustworthy and professional suppliers from across the borough to deliver these works over the coming months. A more energy efficient home helps residents to stay warm, save money and cut carbon emissions.
“Residents who think they may be eligible, as well as landlords, friends and neighbours of vulnerable residents, should get in touch now.”
How to apply
To qualify for grant funding you must be able to prove you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit or have a total gross household income of less than £30,000 per year.
