A temporary shuttle bus service has been introduced for parts of Finchampstead as part of the Nine Mile Ride Extension project.
The Park Lane/Nine Mile Ride junction is closed while construction work takes place, until October 2021.
As the closure is impacting on residents and people visiting the area the shuttle service will serve impacted areas for the rest of the closure period.
The service started on Monday (5 July) and runs every weekday from 7.30am to 6.30pm and 8am to 2pm on Saturdays.
Regular service for six days a week
Services will run every 20 minutes during this period. Anyone looking to link up with the Reading Buses services in the area is advised to check its website and check the timings. A timetable for the services can be found below.
The shuttle service, which will be run by ABC travel, will start picking up residents at Robinson Crusoe bus stops and drop them to the Biggs Lane stop where the Leopard 3 bus, run by Reading Buses is still operational.
The shuttle will then make its way along the route to the closure at Nine Mile Ride, from here, it’ll turn around and then complete the shuttle route for this section, dropping users at either the Barkham Ride East stop (if heading towards Wokingham) and the Barkham Stores stop (if heading towards Reading).
Continuing to invest in infrastructure
Cllr Pauline Jorgensen, executive member for highways and transport, said: “This shuttle service will help the local community to continue to access key bus services into both Wokingham and Reading by running regularly and linking up with services in the area.
“Our work on the Nine Mile Ride Extension will help ease congestion in this area in the years ahead once the project is complete. It’s part of our continued investment in our highways network, as part of our multi-million pound Major New Roads programme and £1billion investment in infrastructure.”
The Nine Mile Ride Extension (NMRE) will connect the existing A327 Eversley Road with the Nine Mile Ride / Park Lane junction. The NMRE construction is in two sections. The northern section between A327 Eversley Road and the Bohunt School access road is complete and the rest is still under construction.
Construction is due to be completed next year with the road open for traffic in autumn 2022. The extension is part of the council’s Major Highways Project alongside our construction partner Balfour Beatty, which is creating the road infrastructure to support the borough’s growing communities.
