Winnersh Triangle and Mereoak Park and Rides in the Wokingham Borough have achieved the national Park Mark Safer Parking Award.
This award is given to parking facilities that meet the standards of a risk assessment by police and the British Parking Association, and is aimed at reducing crime in these areas and the fear of crime among people using them.
Only parking schemes with measures in place to create a safe environment are given the award which looks at surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness.
“We’re thrilled two of our park and rides have reached this benchmark as it means they’re providing a safer environment for our local motorists,” said Cllr Malcolm Richards, executive member for highways and transport at Wokingham Borough Council.
“It’s a fantastic achievement and testament to the effective management and high car parking standards maintained by our team.
“We were very close to getting the award for nearly all our other car parks, so are concentrating on what needs to be done to make that happen.”
Car parks with this award can use signage with the distinctive Park Mark tick, so drivers know exactly where to go for safe parking.
Park Mark says that parking resources in other parts of the country with this accolade have seen a drop in vehicle-related crime of more than 80%.
There are currently 5,000 car parks with the Park Mark Award throughout the UK. To find your nearest Park Mark® car park, visit its website.
