Wokingham town centre’s new library is set to open next week at the Carnival Hub, the council’s flagship new community building.
The opening, which was originally scheduled to take place on Monday, has been delayed until Tuesday 20 September in respect for Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, whose state funeral will be held on Monday 19.
The new library, which moves to the Hub from its current home on Denmark Street, is set to become a focal point for the local community. There will be all the current favourite spaces such as browsing areas for books and resources, access to computers and a fantastic children’s area with lots of fun seating and space to relax.
There will be space for exhibitions and displays, larger meetings rooms which can be combined into one big space for events. There will also be areas for those wishing to study or carry out research in the library, including group study spaces and a bank of individual study booths to give people more privacy if desired. There will be lots of soft seating and breakout areas with tables and chairs for those looking to relax whilst they read, along with a new area specially designed for teens to enjoy.
New library opening hours
Following the initial opening at 9.30am on Tuesday 20 September, Wokingham Library at the Carnival Hub will continue to follow the usual opening hours of Monday and Tuesday’s 9.30am to 5pm, Wednesday 9.30am to 4pm, Thursdays 9.30am to 7pm, Fridays 9.30am to 5pm and Saturdays 9.30am to 4pm. The library remains closed on a Sunday, although opening hours are being kept under review to assess whether moving to the Hub has an impact on visitor patterns to the new space.
