Borough sporting stars in gymnastics, football and athletics were among those recognised at the annual Wokingham Borough Council sports awards, on 22 November.
Nineteen awards were presented by Reading FC’s women’s manager Kelly Chambers at the event – this year held at Holme Grange School – designed to showcase the borough’s sporting stars and their achievements.
“This event is always a great opportunity to hear about the range of sporting activities taking place in the borough, and to recognise the achievements of some of our talented sports people and those who help to make these achievements possible,” said, Nigel King, Wokingham Borough Sports Council chairman.
And the winners are:
Best Senior School - Forest School
Under 14 Girls - Sonia Runcianu
Under 14 Boys - Jia Qing David NG
Under 18 Girls - Libby Burgess
Under 18 Boys - Sammy Ball
Senior Woman - Karen Burles
Senior Man - Josh Zeller
Female Team Award - Wokingham District Primary Schools Girls Football Team
Male Team Award - Reddam Senior Men
Coach of the Year - George Austin
Service to Sport (Individual) - Shashank Garg
Service to Sport (Club) - Woodley United FC
Unsung Hero Award - Bill Rodda
Volunteer of the Year - Denis and Shirley Jones
Service to Disabled Sport - Thames Valley Kings
Excellence Award - Archie Carter
Courage Award - RJ Drapper
Spirit of Sport - Reddam Gymnastics
Chairman's Award - Craig Hunter
A number of primary schools were also recognised for their achievements under the School Games Mark scheme and were presented with plaques:
Platinum - Nine Mile Ride, Shinfield St Mary’s and Radstock
Gold - Addington, All Saints, Hillside and Robert Piggott
Silver - Loddon
Bronze - Evendons, St Paul’s and The Coombes’
The awards ceremony is organised by Wokingham Borough Council and sponsored by its leisure provider Places Leisure.
