Younger people in Bulmershe & Whitegates, Evendons, Norreys and Wescott wards are being invited to get a first dose vaccine during the next two weeks.
The surge vaccine programme, being run by the council and the NHS, will run from tomorrow (Tuesday 15 June) to Sunday 27 June (inclusive) at Bulmershe Leisure Centre for those people aged 18 to 24 who live in those wards.
Key information
The centre will be open for vaccinations from 9.30am to 8.30pm each day. The nearest parking will be at the Woodley United FC/University of Reading car park on Woodlands Avenue (RG6 7FR). The next nearest parking is at Woodley Town Centre.
There is no parking available at the leisure centre; it is asked that visitors are considerate and do not cause any obstructions in nearby residential areas.
All those coming to the centre for a vaccination must bring proof of address and proof of ID because this programme is targeting those in the affected wards only – anybody who does not know what ward they are in can check the postcode tracker on the WBC website at: www.wokingham.gov.uk/surge-testing.
Residents aged 25 and over are encouraged to continue to book a Covid-19 vaccination at a mass vaccination centre through the NHS website.

Checklist for those hoping to get a vaccine at Bulmershe Leisure Centre as part of surge vaccination:
- Don’t come to the centre if you have Covid-19 symptoms or have had a positive test in 28 days
- Check you are eligible – aged 18 to 24 (inclusive) and living in Bulmershe & Whitegates, Evendons, Norreys or Wescott ward and bring proof of address and ID to the centre
- Check Wokingham Borough Council’s website or Facebook and Twitter feeds for updates
- Those living in target wards should still get tested this week as part of the council’s surge testing offer, even if they have had the vaccination

Cllr Charles Margetts, executive member for health, well-being and adult social care said: “We have worked with the NHS to provide this great opportunity to get many of our younger people vaccinated early because we know there is a specific issue in these areas.
"This is in line with what we have done throughout the pandemic, which is to use the data to proactively find ways to help the community. Some of our surge test centres have been very busy and we very much hope to see a lot of young people coming to get an early jab this week and next.”
