First set of bricks laid at Gorse Ride
A significant milestone has been reached at Wokingham Borough Council's flagship regeneration scheme at Gorse Ride in Finchampstead where the first set of bricks for the first new houses in Phase 2A have been laid by Borough Mayor Cllr Caroline Smith and executive member for housing Cllr Stephen Conway.

Wokingham Borough Council is proud to launch an ambitious Planet Pledge campaign to inspire and encourage people to make changes to help address the climate emergency. A Planet Pledge is a solemn promise an individual chooses and delivers over the course of the year to tackle the climate emergency.

Groundbreaking regeneration work starts at Gorse Ride
Last month, Wokingham Borough Council and appointed contractor, Wates Residential, reached a milestone as they broke ground on the affordable housing regeneration scheme at Gorse Ride in Finchampstead.

With the next phase of Wokingham Borough Council's Gorse Ride affordable housing regeneration underway in Finchampstead, attention has started to turn to naming the four new roads and five apartment blocks which will be built as part of the scheme.

Council moves forward to deliver the Leisure Strategy
The council's decision making executive has approved proposals to deliver the Leisure Strategy (2021-25). The proposal includes using Section 106 (money paid by housing developers for new and improved facilities) funding to enhance sports facilities at The Forest School in Winnersh and the progression of a new 3G pitch, subject to planning, Football Foundation funding and public consultation.

Proposals to relocate Twyford Library from its existing site to a new home turned an important page last week (28 July) when the Council's executive voted to complete the lease for the Old Polehampton Boys school building and allocate an additional £330,000 towards the works.

Case study - Moving with Confidence scheme

Mayor helps to plant fruit trees at Dinton Pastures
Wokingham Borough Council teamed up with Freely Fruity and the Mohanji ACT Foundation UK to plant twenty-nine fruit trees and hundreds of hedgerows at Dinton Pastures Country Park. The event took place on Saturday 12 March 2022 and was attended by Wokingham Borough Mayor, Cllr Keith Baker MBE.

Wokingham Borough Council has released a 'tackling domestic abuse in the borough' video, letting residents, victims and survivors know that support is available locally. BXGFit takes shape at Peach Place
Final preparations are taking place at Wokingham's first boxing fitness hub, BXGFit, as it gets ready to open this winter. The council has invested in the state-of-the-art boxing fitness hub at Peach Place, Wokingham, following an increased demand in combat sports and fitness sessions across the borough.

Support for those diagnosed with Cancer
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Being diagnosed with breast cancer, or any other cancer, can be a devastating shock to people, with many feeling isolated and alone, and not knowing where to turn to get support. But it's important that people understand they are not alone, that others have gone through similar journeys themselves, and that support is available.

New facility opens at Cantley Park to boost grassroots sport
A brand new state-of-the-art 3G pitch with floodlights was officially opened by Wokingham Borough Council at Cantley Park in Wokingham on 1 September. The new 3G Pitch was made possible thanks to investment from the Premier League, The FA and Government's Football Foundation. After netting a £616,619 grant amount grant from the Football Foundation, work begun on the site in January 2021.
