Climate Emergency

Climate Emergency

Wokingham Borough Council declared a climate emergency in July 2019 and the action plan was approved at council in January 2020.

The action plan is wide reaching, touching on all areas of the council’s work. It sets out what we will do as a business to reduce our own emissions, as well as the measures we can enforce and encourage with residents, businesses (including developers and contractors), and visitors in the borough.

Our plan is to:

  • Reduce carbon dioxide emissions from transport

  • Reduce carbon dioxide emissions from domestic and business property

  • Generate more renewable energy in the borough

  • Create a local plan that specifies net zero construction and infrastructure

  • Increase the levels of carbon sequestration the borough through greening the environment

  • Engage with young people and support sustainable schools

  • Reduce waste sent to landfill

  • Encouraging behaviour change
