It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Wokingham Borough Libraries. The festive fun kicked off at the Wokingham Winter Carnival on Sunday 24 November, with a staggering 909 children passing through the library's doors to meet Santa, enjoy a Berkshire ‘mini’ Maestros workshop and even a spot of Festive Sand Art.
The day was a huge success, as families gathered to marvel at a Magic Show and enjoyed entertainment in the form of a Punch & Judy performance. Kids were also able to get crafty by joining the Festive Sand Art drop-in, where they were invited to create Christmas cards with Kids Bee Happy and Maddi.
“We were delighted to welcome local children and families through our doors, as part of the annual Wokingham Winter Carnival. This a huge event for the town and it is always a joy to see kids laughing and having fun,” said Mark Redfearn, head of localities.
“I also want to thank our library team worked hard to pull of the event. It’s really worthwhile when you see dozens of excited little ones queuing up to see Santa, or giggling at a magic show. And, the festive fun doesn’t stop there, we’ve got a whole host of festive activities coming up to keep the whole family entertained right up until Christmas.”
The Wokingham Borough Libraries team are hosting several seasonal activities across the borough’s libraries. Commencing Saturday 30 November with a Festive Craft Workshop at Wokingham Library. Make Christmas themed snow globes and candle holders from jam jars with Rachel Freegard, from 10am to 1pm.
Next up, head down to the Woodley Winter Extravaganza on Sunday 1 December, where the library is once again hosting a Festive Sand Art drop-in. From 11am to 1pm, kids are invited to get crafty by making their own Christmas cards using sand art. The session will be run by Kids Bee Happy and Maddi.
Get into a holly jolly mood with the Christmas Tree Fairy with The Enchanted Players at Wokingham Library. On Tuesday 10 December, between 4 to 4.30pm, locals are invited to listen to the Christmas Tree Fairies favourite poems and stories, plus sing along to your favourite Christmas jingles.
The Christmas happenings continue on Monday 16 December, at 6pm, as Wokingham’s Living Advent Calendar treat residents to a merry performance. This is part of their annual activity in which they host free acts for locals from the 1 to 24 December. The content of each event is top-secret, as each show pairs with a different local performer, or group of performers and a charity who take a collection.
Last, but by no means least, swing by Wargrave Library on Saturday 21 December, where the team are hosting a Festive Fun session from 10.30am to 12.30pm. What’s more, there will also be a very special visit from Father Christmas, who is set to land at 11.30am.
