Who is the Mayor

  • The Mayor is Cllr Malcolm Richards
  • The Mayoress is Christine Richards
  • The Deputy Mayor is Cllr Keith Baker MBE
  • The Deputy Mayoress is Marilyn Baker

What is the Mayor's role

The Mayor is the first citizen of the Wokingham Borough and is a non-political position. The Mayor chairs council meetings and also attends many functions in the Borough.

Mayor's charity

This year the Mayor has chosen to support both Homestart Wokingham and First Days Wokingham.

Homestart gives a range of emotional guidance, practical advice and support, to families with at least one child under five.  First Days works to reduce the effects of child poverty by equipping them with essential items they need for their early years and at school, also combined with guidance.  Their services are each directed at a family with children in urgent need, but the type of provision varies.

Invitations for the Mayor

All invitations to attend events should be made through the Mayor's office. Email: mayor@wokingham.gov.uk or call (0118) 974 6004.

Mayor's Roll of Honour

Each month Cllr Richards and his deputy mayor Cllr Keith Baker MBE will select worthy winners from those people nominated by members of the public. There will be children’s and adults’ categories and each winner will receive a lapel badge and scroll to mark their achievements.

Any borough resident can be nominated for an award. To nominate somebody, all you have to do is email the mayor’s office at: mayoralsupport@wokingham.gov.uk. Nominations (which can only be made by Wokingham borough residents) should be no longer than 200 words and should set out why the nominee should be considered for the award. For the children’s awards, outstanding achievements such as in sport or arts will be considered.
